Make a copy, or risk losing it!

When it comes to keeping your data safe on your computer, one piece of advice sums it up for me:

If you only have one copy of something, it doesn’t exist!

Think about all the data on your computer; photos, music, documents, emails and contacts. Now imagine the hard drive that they are stored on failing, making everything irretrievable.

Suddenly your data doesn’t exist! Unless you have another copy somewhere.

For a start, consider these options:

* Copy your data to an external hard drive or USB drive.
* Backup your data to the internet
* Use backup software to automate the procedure

It’s imperative that you have more than one copy of all your data, if you don’t want to risk it disappearing.

To be even safer, store a copy at the home of a trusted family member or friend, that way if you get burgled, or lose everything in a fire, at least your data will be safe.
